Ace Highlife musician,Abrantie Amakye Dede,together with some sports dignitaries,officially launched a series of entertainment activities in a bid to raise funds to support the Black Stars’qualification to the Germany 2006 World Cup at a press conference held at the International Press Centre last Tuesday.
The programme,dubbed‘Operation Six Points’,comprises a series of musical entertainment events featuring various musicians in the country which would be held every Friday night at the Abrantie Spot,Abeka-Lapaz.
Through these programmes,funds would be raised from gate proceeds,raffles,corporate and individual sponsorship drives and an activity named ‘Yibi Ma Black Stars.’
Present at the launching ceremony were the Member of Parliament for Afia-Kwesi Mintim and a leading member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Joe Baidoe Ansah,two executives of the Ghana National Supporters Union (GNSU),representatives of OmniQuest Limited, organisers of the event, Amakye Dede himself and members of the press.
In his address,Baidoe Ansah,who chaired the function, said that this laudable programme being launched by the musician should generate the needed public support that will push the Black Stars to the World Cup.
He said further that Black Stars’participation in the World Cup would give a highly positive image about the country to the outside world and that there is a need for all Ghanaians to help raise funds for the Stars since football is a sport that brings unity and breaks all forms of tribal barriers.
The MP therefore urged the media to help unify Ghanaians to rally support for the Black Stars to achieve their objective of taking Ghana to the World Cup in 2006.
In support of what the Chairman said,Abrantie Amakye Dede stressed that the programme will serve as the musicians’ contribution towards motivating the Black Stars to perform well and qualify to play in the World Cup at Germany in 2006.
“This is not about any individual premier team but about our national team and all Ghanaians must unite in support of this worthy cause.”He said.
According to Abrantie,many musicians have gladly agreed to be part of the entertainment programmes and he is still calling on other artistes whom he didn’t name to join the band wagon.
In a speech on behalf of the Ghana National Supporters Union (GNSU),Mr.Aziz,a member and composer of the new Black Stars Jama cheer song “God bless our homeland Ghana ei”,said that since the union is against hooliganism in football.
They are proud be part of Amakye Dede’s launching of Operation Six Points which will bring together soccer fans from all the regions in the country to boost the morale of the Black Stars not only to qualify but to win the Germany 2006 World Cup.
